Liquor destroyed in Cirebon

CIREBON, Jawa Barat: Hundreds of thousands of bottles of alcoholic drinks worth around Rp 0.5 billion were destroyed by Cirebon Police in West Java.

Cirebon Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Musyafak said the illegal beverages had mostly been confiscated from two warehouses in Mundu subdistrict, and that the owner, Usman Effendi, had been arrested.

"He has been named as a suspect and is being detained for further questioning," he said on Thursday after presiding over the breaking of the bottles and burning of the liquor.

The alcohol was packed in 27,250 boxes consisting of between 10 and 20 bottles each.

Musyafak said his office would continue to crack down on illegal alcoholic drinks so as to reduce their distribution in Cirebon and neighboring Indramayu. --JP
