Liquor confiscated and destroyed

BOGOR (JP): Police here destroyed on Saturday over 9,000 bottles of alcohol of various brands confiscated in separate raids over the past week from distributors and retailers throughout the city.

The alcohol, such as whiskey and vodka, were burned together with one kilograms of marijuana and dozens of drugs, including shabu-shabu (crystal metamphetamine) and tranquilizers.

The destruction of the goods took place at Bogor City Police headquarters witnessed by local law enforcers, teachers and religious leaders.

Head of Bogor City Police detectives, Capt. Umar Sumardi, said the liquor contained alcohol from 15 percent to 43 percent proof.

"The destruction is a part of our efforts to eliminate the networks of alcohol and drugs in the city," he said.

"We will continue our raids at hotels, which serve the imported alcoholic drinks," he added. (21/nvn)
