Lippo hands out Rp 250m to school

BEKASI: As part of the a foster parent program, Lippo Cikarang donated Rp 250 million (US$26,300) to a state elementary school in Cibarusah Jaya subdistrict in Bekasi regency.

The funds were used to finance the construction of three classrooms, a schoolmasters room, a teachers' room, and two toilets, which were officiated by Bekasi Regent Saleh Manaf last Friday.

With the additional facilities, the Cibarusah Jaya 01 elementary school on Jl. Cendrawasih now has six classrooms to accommodate 365 students, according to schoolmaster Ajat Mutaqhin.

The inauguration of the new school facilities was also attended by Lippo Cikarang president director Yuke Susiliputro, speaker of Bekasi regency council Sa'jjuddin and head of bekasi education agency Muhydin.

The regent explained that the participation of private companies in building schools was part of the "foster parent program" introduced by the Bekasi regency administration.

He said that 271 companies in the regency had taken part in the program.--JP
