Lippo continues scholarships

TANGERANG (JP): Widely diversified Lippo Group is maintaining a Rp 1 billion annual scholarship for needy students despite the economic crisis.

Lippo president Roy Tirtaji said on Saturday the fund was intended primarily to provide scholarships to students with excellent educational performance.

"This program, which was first implemented in 1994, will continue as part of our contribution to national human resources development," he said after meeting recipients of this year's scholarship at Century Imperial Hotel here.

A total of 82 students of Pelita Harapan University, which is run by Lippo in Tangerang, are enrolled as scholarship recipients.

He said scholarships were earmarked for tuition, lodging, clothing and other needs. (41/jun)
