LIPI researcher drowns off Hoga

KENDARI, Southeast Sulawesi: A senior researcher drowned while studying the sea off Hoga Island, police said yesterday.

Ichsan Amir, from the Jakarta-based Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), died while diving on Tuesday. Police are yet to determine why he drowned.

His body was flown to Jakarta yesterday following an autopsy, Antara reported.

Ichsan's colleagues said his group arrived at the Hoga Island beach resort on June 9. They were to conduct a survey with Eco Survey Ltd researchers. (pan)
