LIPI gets new professors

JAKARTA: Two scientists from the National Institute of Sciences (LIPI), Riza Sihbudi and Hermawan Sulistyo, were promoted on Thursday to research professors.

Riza, a Middle East expert, said in his inauguration speech entitled "Islam, radicalism and democracy" that in a predominantly Muslim country like Indonesia, it was still possible for democracy to flourish.

Separately, Hermawan, a historian and political analyst, said in his speech that Indonesian scientists must keep their research spirit alive and do more for the country's sake. --JP
