'Lion King' co-star now in Safari Park

BOGOR: The Indonesia Safari Park in Cisarua, Bogor, has a new collection of eight Meerkats (Suricata suricatta), a kind of mongoose from the southern African savanna.

"The Meerkats arrived on March 2 but they have to adapt the new habitat first before they are put on display in the 'Africa Continent' area," park spokesman Yulius Suprihardo was quoted by Antara as saying on Friday.

The character Timon in animation movie The Lion King, is a Meerkat.

Meerkats, which live in a large groups, attack their prey without warning. They eat poisonous scorpions by biting off their stingers first and are a match even to poisonous snakes. -- JP
