Life sentence sought for drug couriers
TANGERANG: A prosecutor asked the Tangerang District Court on Tuesday to sentence a Thai woman and a Nigerian man each to life imprisonment for drug smuggling.
The two defendants, Bunyong Khaosa Ard, 45, from Thailand and her Nigerian counterpart Obina Nuwajagu, 28, are being tried separately.
Prosecutor M. Adam said Bunyong arrived at the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on board Thai Airways flight TG 433 on April 6 after swallowing 45 capsules of heroin.
Bunyong said that she was to give the drugs to Obina in a hotel in Slipi, West Jakarta. Escorted by officers, she went to the hotel on April 7 to meet Obina, who was arrested later.--JP
