Library communication

From Merdeka

Communication and progress in documentation are known to be part of growth, or predisposed to its function of ideal transfer. Communication aims to spur organization members to reach a mutual goal. Communication also integrates management functions. Through communication an organization could: 1. Spread the objectives of an organization; 2. develop plans to reach an organization's objectives; 3. organize human and other resources to become effective and efficient; 4. own and appreciate good organization members; 5. lead and generate a climate within the organization to induce maximal participation of members; 6. control the behavior of organization members.

Communication in libraries is an important function of management in order for decisions to be made. In practice, effective communication sprouts from active organization, including the effective management of communication equipment like computers, telephones, audio equipment and information networks like the Internet.

Oral communication has more clout than written communication, if one bears in mind that to straighten out written articles, many duties need doing at the same time. The written word could be improved by "close circuit" broadcasting, television, etc.

When choosing between written or oral communication, one should consider the following points:

* a fairly routine personal interview would imply that personnel have to spruce themselves up, not just in appearance but also in efficiency. This is necessary, since libraries serve the public.

* Memos are there to ease one's work, computers are also useful in this respect. Communication strategies are applied in libraries for effectiveness and efficiency with minimal time use. Of importance is to know how incoming and outgoing transmissions are influenced by modern technology. How does the new system affect human communication?

To derive an effective communication system, one should be convinced of the importance of communication in day-to-day work. Communication is often used in leadership, aside from its use in functional management. On account of this, leaders, especially those in education, should be implementing the principles of communication in a most competent way.
