Libel case closed against 'SCTV'

YOGYAKARTA: A defamation case between Gadjah Mada University economist Revrisond Baswir and SCTV has been closed, after the former publicly apologized on Monday to the private television station.

On May 13, the broadcaster reported Revrisond to Yogyakarta Police for allegedly defaming it.

"On this occasion I openly apologize to SCTV because the problem ... merely resulted from my misunderstanding and mistakes in using television articulation," he said, without elaborating.

The lecturer denied that he had an intention to make any accusation against or to discredit the broadcaster. "Therefore ... I rectify my statement that was considered to have discredited SCTV."

The libel case started when Revrisond was invited to speak on a recorded talk show later broadcast on March 3, along with State Minister of National Development Planning Sri Mulyani Indrawati, to discuss the pros and cons of the government fuel price-rise policy. --Antara
