Let it be

I refer to Mr. Piero Ronci's letter (The Jakarta Post, May 21, 1996). I agree that the millions of children and old people who have difficulty in following subtitles have the same rights as educated people and/or expatriates to enjoy TV since all of them pay TV tax.

I would therefore like to suggest that the government leaves the programs just the way they are. Some foreign programs are dubbed, some, especially English programs, are subtitled. This benefits everybody.

Uneducated people who enjoy local programs and/or dubbed movies may also learn to enjoy subtitled programs and in turn benefit from them as they help them learn to read. At the same time educated people can improve their English. In a nutshell, all Indonesians should progress in this era of globalization.
