Let Diana rest in peace
I refer to my letter of Sept. 5 on "Princess Diana" and the views expressed against it by Mr. Bill Guerin and Ms. Maria Margaretta on Sept. 8. My opinion on Diana was far less damaging than Mr. Bill's comments on my views (paragraphs 2,3, and 4). I don't feel that his comparison in paragraph 3 was apt. How many times has the world seen Presidents of countries dying in accidents (chased by photographers)?
Mr. Guerin extensively talks of the car accident. I fail to understand how a car driver, a body guard or a co-passenger of a celebrity could have made their own decisions to avoid the photographers while it was Diana who was being chased. The same Diana, who a few days before her death, had allowed herself to be photographed intimately on a beach with Dodi.
The Queen instructed Prince Charles to divorce Diana only after Diana had continued hurting and limitlessly abusing them. I am not saying that Charles is not responsible for the broken marriage, but only trying to say that Diana did not do enough justice to her role as a "Princess of the Royal family" without which she could not have sought to become "Queen of the people's hearts." After all people in Britain do not hate Charles as much as they love Diana and in recent surveys they even favored a possible marriage between Prince Charles and Camilla Parker- Bowles (whether it is right or wrong).
Replying to Ms. Maria's views, I wish to state that such a smart player as Diana should have known very well what it means to enter the Royal family and the responsibilities attached to it. Prince Charles' affair with Camilla was far less objectionable than Diana's own tit for tat behavior. If Diana was not happy with her marriage she should have diplomatically walked away from it without bringing the reputation of the "Royal family" to the streets. Diana seemed to have wanted to have her cake and eat it too.
With this I wish to end my reply to differing views not for want of arguments, but to allow Diana to rest in peace.
