Lentera opens middle school for children
JAKARTA (JP): Lentera International School, an international institution which specializes in educating exceptional children, opened its middle school for children aged nine to 13.
The school headmistress, Gillian Greenwood, told The Jakarta Post late last week that 40 students of various nationalities are enrolled at the school. Lentera has approximately 250 pupils.
Greenwood said that 17 exceptional students are now studying at the school. She added that besides teachers, the school also offers the services of physio, speech and psychology therapists.
"Lentera is the only international school in Indonesia which provides a special educational unit to assist the learning process of disabled children who suffer from physical, emotional or learning disabilities," she said.
However, Greenwood added that the school is for gifted children as well, "because those children also need special attention."
The school, established in 1990, applies a combined curriculum from Britain, Australia and New Zealand. It also teaches Bahasa Indonesia.
For the 1994-1995 academic year, Lentera charged US$4,975 per nursery school student (2.5 to four years old), $9,030 for each lower school student (four to nine) and $10,200 per middle school student (nine to 13).
Lentera is owned by Lentera International School Foundation, a non-profit organization, and is funded solely by tuition payments. (03)
