Lemhannas chairman to be replaced

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is seeking a replacement of National Resilience Institute (Lemhannas) chairman Ermaya Suradinata, a top government official says. State Secretary Sudi Silalahi said on Thursday the President was preparing a decree on the change of guard in the government think tank agency. "Let's wait for the replacement which will take place in the near future," Sudi said when asked about Ermaya's successor. Former state secretary and justice minister Muladi has been touted as a candidate for the Lemhannas top post. Sudi said the President deemed Ermaya's length of service sufficient and the institute needed "rejuvenation". -- Antara

An outbreak of measles has killed five children and infected more than 700 others on the island of Sumba, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) said on Thursday. The outbreak hit 12 isolated villages in the West Sumba district of East Nusa Tenggara province this month, said Anton Susanto, an official with Indonesia's UNICEF office. "The current figure shows that 711 children have been infected and five others have died," he said. Frans Salem, a provincial social affairs official, was quoted by Antara on Wednesday as saying that children in the villages were in dire need of vaccinations. He urged the government to send more vaccine to stop the outbreak spreading. -- AFP
