Legislators are still kids at heart

What do legislators do while they wait for a session to begin? One of them is toying with their cell phones.

This was exactly what happened with sub-commission B1, whose task was to discuss the crucial issue of economic recovery on Wednesday afternoon.

While six members of the sub-commission were seen raking their brains in another room to determine steps on how to lift the country's economy out of the current crisis, other members who were waiting for the results of the deliberations in the Nusantara III building played around with their cell phones exchanging jokes among themselves.

"Cecep Rukmana, please come to the stage and sing Bubuy Bulan" an unidentified legislator announced from his cell phone, giggling, unaware that his giggles echoed across the room.

Cecep Rukmana is a member of Commission B from the Reform Faction. And Bubuy Bulan, which literally means Roasting the Moon, is a Sundanese folk song from West Java.

Others followed by sending jokes to their colleagues.

Their behavior reminded the spectators of a term used by former president Abdurrahman Wahid, who once called legislators "kindergarten kids" due to their immature behavior.

Apparently, legislators are still kids at heart. --JP
