Legian LG Hotel taken over

KUTA, Bali: The Denpasar District Court executed its Feb. 14 verdict on Monday to allow Bank Universal to take over the four- star LG Hotel in Legian after PT Pondok Asri Dewata (PAD), the hotel's management, failed to return its debt to the bank.

As part of the execution, all the 167 hotel employees were told to go home and will be replaced by people assigned by the bank.

The takeover process was carried out smoothly, despite employees' protests. Service for the hotel's guests, including 40 foreign tourists, went on normally.

"I received a copy of the letter at 7:15 a.m. today. It seems to me that everything is not well prepared and sloppily planned, therefore all employees were surprised when they were told to leave," AA Gd Cakra, the hotel's residence manager said on Monday.

The disgruntled employees said they had nothing to do with the management's debt to the bank. They refused to leave until police officers safeguarding the takeover persuaded them. (zen/sur)
