JAKARTA (JP): Jakarta's Legal Aid Institute (LBH) begins a law
course for 50 law graduates and students today.
The five-week course, called Kalabahu 1997, is at LBH's office
on Jl. Diponegoro, Central Jakarta, Luhut Pangaribuan, LBH's
director, said yesterday.
The program will focus on human rights, legal aid and its
development in Indonesia, the role of non-governmental
organizations, gender issues, and environmental law.
The speakers will include LBH's senior staff, judges,
prosecutors, officials, police officers, lecturers, researchers,
non-governmental organization's activists, and senior lawyers.
Former secretary-general of the National Human Rights
Committee Baharuddin Lopa will also speak in the course.
A member of the organizing committee said the course was one
of the official prerequisites for people wanting to become
defense lawyers at LBH. (13)
