Legal aid body under threat?

From Media Indonesia

It astonishes me how much fuss there is, not the least in the mass media, about founder Adnan Buyung Nasution's retirement from the Legal Aid Foundation's management.

As a layperson, I deeply regret certain people's enthusiasm when giving the battle cry for democratization without really understanding the meaning of the word. The foundation is a seasoned NGO. Its board of advisers clearly has the authority to determine the mechanism to be used in the foundation's actions.

We shouldn't cry out about democracy, let alone invite public debate, because of the painful impacts if the fuss has been engineered by irresponsible parties who endeavor to destroy the foundation.

I believe that the foundation remains the only consistent alternative institution for all matters which concern the people.
