Learn Mandarin campaign

There were some incorrect facts in your article published on Oct. 10, 1995, entitled S'poreans question Learn Mandarin campaign that you might want to correct:

1. Moses Lim gained fame as a Chinese language comedian in a very popular Chinese variety show before switching to English- language sitcoms. His Chinese programs are even sold locally in video and audio cassettes. Thus I do not think he is "more comfortable in English". Rather, I think he is effectively bi- lingual.

2. Singapore Symphony Orchestra conductor Chow Hooey's alma mater is the prestigious Chinese High School, which definitely makes him Chinese-educated.

3. Finally, we prefer Hollywood movies because of the higher standard of production and not because we are more comfortable watching English language movies as implied. Jacky Chen's Thunderbolt was the top grossing movie this year, but Singaporeans also enjoyed France's Nikita and the Italian film Cinema Paradiso.
