Lawsuit against `Sinar' dropped
The powerful Pemuda Pancasila youth organization has revoked its lawsuit filed at the Central Jakarta District Court against Sinar magazine.
A letter of revocation for the lawsuit was sent by Pemuda Pancasila's lawyer Martua Siregar on Oct. 5, 1994, to the court, a copy of which was made available to The Jakarta Post Wednesday.
The letter did not disclose the reason behind the revocation.
Sinar's front page story about debt collectors in August followed the murder of one of the notorious debt collectors. The article claimed that Pemuda Pancasila was also a debt-collecting group.
The report drew criticism from Pemuda Pancasila and prompted its chairman, Yapto Soerjosoemarno, to file the lawsuit.
Weeks later, however, Yapto's rebuttal was published in Sinar subsequently cooling down the tense situation. (09)
