Lawmaker leaves for governor's post

JAKARTA: Central Kalimantan governor-elect Agustin Teras Narang bid farewell to his fellow lawmakers on Tuesday, asking for their support during his term in office.

Currently the head of the House of Representatives Commission III for legal and security affairs, Teras was announced on July 3 as the winner of the gubernatorial election in Central Kalimantan. He was nominated by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P).

During a House plenary session on Tuesday, Teras said he pursued the governor's seat in order to develop the resource-rich province, many of whose residents remain mired in poverty.

While on a three-month leave of absence for campaigning, Teras' day-to-day duties with the commission were handled by Akil Mochtar of the Golkar Party. -- JP
