Lawmaker calls for replacement of Da'i
SEMARANG: Chairman of the Indonesian Democratic Party (PDI-P) faction at the House of Representatives Tjahyo Kumolo asked the President on Wednesday to immediately replace National Police chief Gen. Da'i Bachtiar for the sake of regeneration.
Tjahyo said he just wanted to see a graceful exit by Da'i, while adding that he had performed well during his three years as the nation's top police officer despite some problems.
"There have been cases that discredited the institution (police force) as well as some individuals recently, while people still believe there are too many links with this police chief and the old government. I believe the police chief must be loyal to the state and serve the interests of people," Tjahyo said.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has hinted that there would be a major reshuffle of the top brass of the Indonesian Military and the National Police within his first 100 days. -- Antara
