Law No. 39/1999 and Law No. 26/2000

I refer to an article by Mr. Hery Susetyo published in The
Jakarta Post on March 14, 2001, titled More serious uncertainty
about the law looms.

There are two mistakes in the article. It mentioned that Law
No. 39/1999 concerns the human rights court and Law No. 26/2000
concerns the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

The fact is that Law No. 39/1999 is about human rights
(including the Indonesian National Commission on Human Rights,
Komnas HAM). While Law No. 26/2000 is about human rights
court/tribunal (where Komnas HAM can act as a single human rights
investigative body for gross violations of human rights such as
genocide and systemic violations). While the law/act concerning
the Truth and Reconciliation Commission is still in process in
the House of Representatives.
