YOGYAKARTA: A man was sentenced to five months in jail for
practicing as a lawyer, using a fake diploma.

Judge Samurti in her verdict said Subiyanto bought a bogus
diploma certifying him as a graduate of the school of law at the
Jakarta-based Jayabaya University in 1989 and then served as a
lawyer. The diploma was bought from a man named Nur Slamet for Rp
1 million.

Nur, who testified in the trial, helped the defendant obtain
the legalized form of the diploma, thesis and student card.

After passing the law test held by the local high court, the
defendant operated as a lawyer, Antara reported. (par)
