Latest rape in Bekasi studied

BEKASI (JP): Police say the latest report regarding Friday's rape of a 35-year-old wife of a teacher was still under investigation.

Reporters yesterday waited for five hours before Bekasi Police Chief. Lt. Col. Alex Bambang R. said that no progress had been made.

"I'll give you further information as soon as there is any development," he told the reporters.

Ti, the teacher's wife, was allegedly raped by five unidentified men at her home in Bekasi, West Java.

The men took turns raping Ti before demanding her to surrender the furniture in her house, earlier reports said.

The house, including the furniture, was being rented by Ti from her husband's Bogor-based relative, who reportedly wanted the furniture returned. Ti and her husband had refused to return the furniture.

The police do not know if the rape was connected to the owner's demands to have the furniture returned. (sur/kod)
