Landslide causes Rp 20b in losses

CILACAP, Central Java: Material losses from the previous landslides in six districts have reached more than Rp 20 billion, spokesman for the local administration Gatot Arif told The Jakarta Post on Monday.

Landslides and mud floods due to torrential rains hit 40 villages here earlier this month, killing at least 27 people.

"The losses include public facilities and people's property, such as schools, roads, administration buildings, bridges and no less than 12,000 homes," Gatot said.

The administration has also handed over Rp 750,000 for each family affected. "We are also providing one kilogram of rice per person every day," Gatot added. (45/edt)
