BENGKULU, Bengkulu: Head of the Bengkulu provincial
transmigration ministry office Basuki welcomed the local people's
plan to give up their land for transmigrants.

"This plan should be praised because the local people have
shown they want to make the transmigration program a success,"
Basuki was quoted by Antara as saying yesterday.

Local people from Muara Santan village, Ketahun district have
committed to giving up some of their land for new transmigrants
from other provinces.

"I believe the newcomers will help boost the economy in the
area," Isin, Muara Santan's head, said. (ste)
