Land for tidal wave victims

JAKARTA: The Ministry of Forestry has appropriated 16 hectares of land at the Meru Betiri National Park in Banyuwangi, East Java, for the victims of the recent tidal wave.

The land was initially designed by the government for a company but the plan was withdrawn because there was no agreement between both parties.

Forestry Minister Djamaludin Suryohadikusumo said President Soeharto supports the plan.

He said he had his staff to meet with the Banyuwangi regent and encourage his residents to relocate to the new area, Antara reported. (par)
