Land disputes may grow worse

SAMARINDA, East Kalimantan: State Minister of Agrarian Affairs Soni Harsono said disputes over land in the eastern Indonesia region are rampant and potentially explosive because most property owners don't have land certificates.

He named East Kalimantan as one of the provinces in which land disputes are frequent,Antara reported yesterday.

"Land disputes are a sensitive matter. They can lead to violence, especially if the people involved don't understand about land reform laws," he said. (01)
