Land broker killed during house break-in

JAKARTA (JP): At least three people broke into a house in Bekasi early yesterday morning, killing the owner and wounding his wife and son.

The intruders did not attempt to steal anything from the house in Kampung Tanah Baru, Cikarang, a family relative said.

The victim, identified as Cecep Yunara, 48, a freelance land broker, was stabbed in the head and back during the attack and his wife Rodiah, 39, and son Fikri Sunarya, 16, were also injured.

A relative, Ocid, said the "mysterious" intruders, possibly more than three, broke into the house at midnight while the family was asleep.

"After failing to break in through the front glass windows, they forced their way through the kitchen door at the back of the house."

Cecep was awakened by noises in the living room, Ocid said.

"When he checked the room, somebody attacked him from behind," he quoted Rodiah as saying.

"He fell down but was still alive and screamed loudly to warn his wife and his son about what was happening."

His scream, however, alerted the intruders that there were other people in the house, Ocid said.

When the men found the woman and her son, they attacked them to keep them quiet.

"After that the robbers ran away without taking anything from the house."

Rodiah suffered a severe stab wound to her right arm while Fikri was hit in the face.

After police were alerted, Rodiah and Fikri were rushed to Husada Hospital while Cecep's body was taken to Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital in Central Jakarta for a postmortem examination. (04)
