Lampung regents play truant

BANDAR LAMPUNG, Lampung: Governor Poedjono Pranyoto has
revealed that local regents and mayors often invent reasons to
stay away from work.

"I have strong evidence that some regents and mayors like
staying away from their offices without acceptable reasons, such
as going to the 'capital'," Poedjono said when meeting with his
senior aides on Tuesday.

He recalled a day when a regent told him on the phone he was
in his office while instead he was in another regency.

"I will not name names but I urge anyone who has ever lied to
me to stop the habit (of staying away from work)," the governor
was quoted by Antara as saying. (pan)
