Lampung flood inundates 1,300 houses
BANDARLAMPUNG, Lampung: Floods inundated approximately 1,300 houses and at least 2,700 hectares of plantations and paddy fields at a transmigration camp in North Lampung regency.
Antara said that for the time being there were no reports of casualties but that officials have already sounded warnings of the possibility of outbreak of disease.
The settlements most affected are Rawapitu and Rawajitu, but other nearby villages are at risk as it is uncertain whether levees will hold the rising water.
Witnesses said the water in some ricefields has risen to as high as one meter.
Subdistrict chief Kirnali M. Yus said he has requested medical supplies and other assistance from the provincial government. (05)
