Lampung fishermen fear tsunami

BANDARLAMPUNG: Hundreds of traditional fishermen in Lampung decided to stay at home on Thursday amid widespread rumors of corpse-eating fish and fears of another tsunami.

"I've experienced storms before, but after the tsunami in Aceh my wife doesn't want me to leave," said Kardiman, a fisherman.

He said many fishermen in Kotaagung were reluctant to fish in deep waters for the same reason, causing a decline in the number of fish offered at the Kualateladas fish auction. The price of fish has not risen, however, due to a lack of buyers.

"There's not many buyers because of the rumor about corpse- eating fish," he said. -- JP
