Lack of funds might delay elections

KUPANG: A lack of money means that two regencies in East Nusa Tenggara province, East Manggarai and East Flores, might not be able to hold elections for their regents as scheduled this June, an official says.

A member of the provincial general elections committee, Johanis Depa, said on Tuesday that the two regencies did not have enough money to finance all of the stages involved in the elections.

"The election committees can't organize the elections with this sort of funding. West Manggarai and East Flores regencies should get additional money," Johanis said.

East Flores' acting regent, Husein Pancratius, said the administration and council members would shortly discuss the matter. -- JP
