Labor union laments slow PLN probe

JAKARTA: The head of the labor union at state power company PT PLN, Ahmad Daryoko, criticized the slow pace of the investigation into alleged graft involving executives at the firm.

After four months of investigation, the Attorney General's Office has not named a suspect in the case.

"I am afraid there has been political intervention in the case," Ahmad said.

The case revolves around the company's decision to provide bonuses for its board of directors in 2003 despite having posted a loss for the year, which goes against Law No. 1/1995 on state enterprises.

State prosecutors began their investigation following complaints from PLN employees.

The labor union's secretary-general, Yunan Lubis, said six PLN employees had been transferred out of Jakarta since the investigation was launched. -- JP
