Labeling of wood required

JAKARTA (JP): The city administration has issued Gubernatorial
Decree No. 1624/1994 requiring lumber sellers label the wood they
sell.

Soenaryo, head of the city's forestry office, yesterday said
that the decree requires the labels identify the type of wood.

He explained that the issuance of the new decree is intended
mainly to protect consumers from being cheated by sellers.

Most consumers know very little about wood types and usage
which makes it possible for irresponsible traders to sell poor
quality wood to them, he said. (hhr)
