Lab identifies dolphin bones
YOGYAKARTA: Biologists at Gadjah Mada University here confirmed that a set of bones recently uncovered by Surakarta Police in Central Java belonged to a bottle-nosed dolphin.
The examination of the bones was completed on Monday, one of the biologists, who requested anonymity, said on Tuesday.
Surakarta Police requested the examination following a report that all six dolphins at the local Taru Jurug Zoo died two years ago due to mistreatment.
The Indonesian Zoo Association said PT Solo Citra Perkasa, the company which manages Jurug zoo, was incapable of caring for the dolphins.
The association has recommended that the government revoke the company's license to capture and exhibit dolphins. (44/edt)
