Kwik to dissolve PDI-P research body

JAKARTA: In another sign of friction within the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan), top official Kwik Kian Gie demanded on Tuesday that the party's research and development center be disbanded.

"As the chair of the research center, I have the right to disband it. There has been friction between us and the party's central board," Kwik said after a party meeting presided over by chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri.

Kwik refused to elaborate on the friction, simply saying that he had submitted a proposal to disband the center to the party's executive board.

The party's deputy secretary-general, Pramono Anung, said the research center only required restructuring.

"There is no friction. We will just restructure the research center," Pramono said after the party meeting. --JP
