Kuwait donates machines to Aceh

JAKARTA: The Kuwaiti government has dispatched 58 excavators, cranes, forklifts and trucks to Aceh to help reopen the highway between Banda Aceh and Meulaboh in the west.

The government presented the equipment to the Aceh Tsunami Task Force (Satkorlak) in Banda Aceh over the weekend.

"Aid will never stop coming until the conditions in Aceh return to normal. After the situation improves, Kuwait will also dispatch aid to help reconstruct all areas damaged by the disaster," Kuwaiti Ambassador to Indonesia Mohammad Fadel Al- Khalaf said.

Kuwait has already donated US$8 million in emergency aid and 150 motor boats to fishermen who lost their vehicles when the killer tidal waves struck the province.

The Gulf country also donated two water purification machines to refugee camps.--JP
