Kuningan forest catches fire

KUNINGAN, West Java: Fire swept through scores of hectares of forests yesterday, injuring one person and threatening nearby residential areas.

Antara reported that the fire broke out on Saturday on Tegal Bodas hill near the Ciremai mount on Saturday. The cause of the fire was not known.

Forest rangers trying to localize the fire said they feared the flames may get out of hand due to strong winds.

"Many hectares of pine trees will burn down if the fire is not contained," a village official said. (pan)
