Krakatau to tour eastern Europe

JAKARTA: Indonesian jazz band Krakatau will perform in eight eastern European countries in July and August, Krakatau front man Dwiki Dharmawan said on Wednesday.

The band will perform in Hungary, Yugoslavia, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Rumania and Finland as part of the various music festivals organized in these countries, he said.

"It all started with our performance at the Bansko International Jazz Festival (BIJAF) in Bulgaria last year. They liked our performance there and they have invited us to perform in their countries this year," Dwiki told The Jakarta Post.

The group is not limited to playing in only jazz festivals but also world music and art festivals. "It appears that Krakatau's music is not only recognized as jazz," he said, adding that the band will be out of the country between July 20 and Aug. 30 of this year. -- JP
