KPUD warns Yusril after KPU threat

YOGYAKARTA: Yogyakarta General Election Commission (KPUD) will issue a legal warning against Yusril Ihza Mahendra, the leader of the Crescent and Star Party (PBB), over his serious threats directed at the KPU.

Yusril, who is also the Minister of Justice and Human Rights, threatened to throw the members of the KPU in jail if they had to postpone the election.

Miftahul Alfin, the chairman of the Yogyakarta KPUD, gave Yusril a three-day deadline on Tuesday to revoke his statement and apologize. Failing that, the Yogyakarta KPUD will file lawsuit against him with the police.

In his campaign in Padang, the capital of West Sumatra, recently Yusril also threatened KPU officials with a court hearing.

"The statement is slanderous. We demand that he apologize within three days, if not, we will file a lawsuit against him," said Miftahul. -- JP
