KPUD to recheck councillors documents

TANGERANG: Complaints were still coming in about the legality of some of the 45 newly elected Tangerang municipal councillors, the regional general elections commission (KPUD) said on Friday.

The complaints were mostly about the alleged use of fake documents during the councillors' applications, KPUD official Ibnu Jandi said.

The commission would soon begin rechecking the documents submitted by councillors, Ibnu said.

If during the rechecking the KPUD concluded councillors were guilty of submitting fake documents, it would replace them with other candidates from their parties.

"Before we file a comprehensive report to the General Elections Commission, we will hold a plenary meeting to decide the sanctions against violators," Ibnu said. -- JP
