KPUD corruption probe completed

JAKARTA: The Jakarta Prosecutors' Office will submit three case files of three suspects from the Jakarta General Elections Commission (KPU Jakarta) charged with graft offenses to the Jakarta District Court in early October.

Jakarta Prosecutors Office head Rusdi Taher said on Monday that investigations into KPU Jakarta chairman Muhammad Taufik, member A Riza Patria, and KPU Jakarta treasurer Neneng Palupi had been completed.

"The case files of the three suspects will be submitted to the court in early October," Rusdi said.

Rusdi put at Rp 9 billion (US$882,352) the estimated state losses caused by the alleged graft.

The KPUD Jakarta received some Rp 168 billion from the city budget to organize the 2004 general elections. The suspects are accused of marking up the prices of a number of procurement projects. --JP
