KPU seeks speedy customs process

JAKARTA: The General Elections Commission (KPU) has sent a letter to the Ministry of Finance asking the latter to speed up the customs and tax office's checking process on imported computers for next year's elections.

KPU deputy chairman Ramlan Surbakti said on Thursday that the imported computers should be sent to provinces, regencies and municipalities across the country on schedule.

"This is a critical point for next stage of the delivery and the installation of information technology infrastructure across the country," he said.

KPU has picked PT Integrasi Technology as the winner of an IT infrastructure tender worth Rp 152.7 billion to speed up the ballot counting in the 2004 election.

Indonesia is scheduled to hold legislative elections in April 2004 and a two-stage direct presidential elections in July and September respectively. --JP
