KPK to examine officials' wealth

Bambang Nurbianto, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will soon examine the wealth reports of 831 of the city's top-ranking officials.

City personnel office head Sukesti Martono said on Wednesday that the echelon II and III, the heads of working units, district heads and subdistrict heads, and officials who hold key positions in city agencies would be included.

According to him, the governor, deputy governor, city secretary and three echelon I officials, have already submitted their wealth reports to the anticorruption commission.

"Those officials are required to fill in the forms prepared by the KPK and should return them within six weeks," Sukesti said after briefing the 831 officials.

In its latest report, the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) revealed alleged irregularities in the expenditure of several city offices, including the Central Jakarta and North Jakarta municipal offices, the City Transportation Agency, City Mining Agency, busway management BP TransJakarta and City Public Lighting Agency.

Activists have estimated that as much as 30 percent of last year's Rp 13 trillion budget was embezzled by city officials.

The examination, according to Sukesti, follows an agreement signed by Governor Sutiyoso and KPK chairman Erry Riyana late last year on the assessment of the wealth of the administration's key officials.
