KPK seeks regional antigraft courts

JAKARTA: The powerful Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has urged President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to go ahead and to set up antigraft courts in the regions.

In a report, the commission said the courts needed to be set up at the provincial level to hear cases of corruption, which were widespread across the country.

The first antigraft court has been established in Jakarta and more are expected to be set up in several main centers.

The KPK said the establishment of anti-graft courts at the provincial level would meet the principle of equality before the law. The regional courts were mandated in leglisation setting up the commission. -- JP
