KPK inaugurates secretary-general

JAKARTA: After eight months of operations, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) inaugurated on Monday its secretary- general to support its activities.

Commission chairman Taufikurrahman Ruki said, after installing Sugiri Syarief as its first secretary-general, that the official would be responsible for all administrative work that contributed to the anticorruption body's performance. The commission has received 700 cases since its establishment early this year.

Sugiri, a former director of the National Family Planning Coordinating Board (BKKBN), will lead a high-flying team including former employees of the now-defunct Civil Servants Wealth Audit Report Commission (KPKPN), the finance ministry and the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK). -- JP
