KPK, court to talk about Puteh case

JAKARTA: Leaders of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) plan to visit the Anti-Corruption Court to discuss technical matters involving the corruption trial of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam Governor Abdullah Puteh.

KPK chairman Taufikurrahman Ruki said on Monday the visit was aimed at assessing the readiness of the Anti-Corruption Court, which is housed under the roof of the Central Jakarta District Court, to hear the case.

"We are ready, but we will find out whether the court is ready as well," Ruki said on the sidelines of a seminar on wealth reports.

The KPK has named Puteh a suspect in the alleged markup in the purchase of a Russian helicopter purchased by the Aceh administration in 2002. The deal is thought to have caused the state Rp 4 billion (US$440,000) in losses. Puteh is being detained at Salemba Prison. -- JP
