KPC contributes $1.4m annually

BALIKPAPAN, East Kalimantan: Foreign coal mining company PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) contributes US$1.4 million (Rp 12 billion) to social development programs in the province, a KPC executive said on Friday.

"The amount of funds our company has allocated to social development programs in the province has reached $1.4 million annually. The funds are distributed directly to local authorities, non-governmental organizations and groups of people," he said.

He said that in coming years, KPC would prioritize assisting the development of modern agricultural practices because a majority of people in the province were farmers.

He added that KPC's production capacity had dropped slightly because of the prolonged industrial dispute between employers and employees. --Antara
